To get the perfect bed sheets, you need to start with the best quality cotton. Of all the cotton plants out there, Gossypium barbadense, an extra-long staple cotton, produces the longest fibres – creating a silky-smooth foundation for the world’s softest, finest sheets. As the old saying goes, once you’ve gone Gossypium barbadense, you’ll never go back.

Many yarns out there just aren’t up to scratch. When it comes to yarns, the more ties and exposed ends you have, the rougher the cotton will feel to the touch. Because we use nothing but extra-long staple cotton, we’re able to create stronger, finer yarns (with fewer ties and ends), for sheets that feel deliciously soft against your skin.

When shaping the feel of our sheets, we always look to the weave. In our 400TC sheets, we’ve gone for a ‘percale weave’ – a one-up/one-down style that produces a crisp and cool matte finish. The minimalist nature of the percale means fewer threads fit into each square inch – creating the light, airy coolness we all know and love.

In our 600TC sheets, we’ve used a ‘sateen weave’ for a silkier feel and smoother look. This four-up/one-down method works by exposing more horizontal threads, resulting in a soft and subtle sleekness. The sateen approach also allows for higher thread counts, as more fibres can be packed into every square inch. Luxury, at its silkiest.

Essential to the quality of any sheet, the thread count is taken from the number of fibres in a single square inch. As a general rule, the lower the thread count, the poorer the quality – but it also depends on the type of cotton used.
