FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the best pillowcase material?
We believe pillowcases made from natural materials is the best choice. Cotton is a great option because it’s breathable, soft and durable. At Rise & Fall we offer long staple cotton pillowcases in two weave types (Soft & Smooth and Crisp & Cool). We also sell sustainable linen pillowcases from our Relaxed and Refined range. Not only are they soft to the touch, breathable and naturally hypoallergenic but they also offer laid-back chicness to any bedroom.
How often should you wash pillowcases?
Pillowcases (or pillow covers) act as a barrier between the pillow and the sleeper. They help to extend the life of the pillow and provide a more comfortable and healthy sleeping environment. We, therefore, recommended you wash your pillowcases once a week to prevent build up of dead skin cells, sweat, natural hair and skin oils, face creams and unwanted makeup. Regularly cleaning your pillowcases will not only protect your skin from allergens but you will also protect your pillows from attracting stains and absorbing unwanted germs.
How should you clean your pillowcases?
Separate your pillowcases from your pillows and pop them into your washing machine. Use a gentle cycle, preferably at 30 degrees and choose a detergent that’s gentle and free of harsh chemicals. If your pillowcases have stubborn stains then apply a small amount of baking soda and water to the stain, allowing it to sit for approximately 30 minutes. Then rinse with cold water before washing. For tougher stains you can opt for a pre-treatment using a stain remover or pre-soaking them in a mixture of white vinegar and water. Then wash as usual.
What is the difference between an Oxford and Housewife pillowcase?
In short, a standard (or Housewife) pillowcase has no border but a simple flap to keep the pillow in place. An Oxford pillowcase, on the other hand, has a border of fabric around the edge of the pillowcase. Whilst not essential they are often placed on top of standard pillowcases for decorative purposes. For more information read our guide on how to buy your perfect pillowcase.
How do I know what size pillowcase to buy?
A standard sized pillowcase is 75 x 50cm and most beds (from single all the way to king will use this size). However, our standard pillowcases are a little larger, measuring 52cm x 77 cm (20.5in x 30in ).

Meanwhile, if you have a super king or emperor sized bed it’s better to go for a super king pillow and pillowcase. They complement bigger beds and provide a more luxurious look. These are typically 90 x 50cm but our super king pillowcases are longer at 52cm x 92 cm (20.5in x 36in).
How do I choose the right pillowcases?
When choosing a pillowcase it’s important to consider factors such as the material used, the thread count and the size of the pillow they’ll fit around.
How many pillowcases should you put on a pillow?
How many pillowcases you use comes down to personal preference. Pillowcases protect your pillows from all sorts of things like dirt, dust, sweat, and oils from your face and hair. Some people, therefore, like to have 2 pillowcases on a pillow rather than just the one. Alternatively, a pillow protector (or pillow cover) can act as an additional barrier in which case only one pillowcase is needed.
Are your duvet covers sold with matching pillowcases?
We give our customers the option. You can buy them separately if you want to go for a mix and match design. Otherwise, you can buy them as a bundle as part of a duvet set.
Are your pillowcases sold separately or in pairs?
Our pillowcases are all sold in pairs but you can still choose to buy a set of standard pillowcases and a set of Oxford pillowcases to use on the same bed. The latter is ideal for dressing your bed, especially if you have a double sized bed or bigger.
