“There's so much connection at work with my inspiring team and amazing clients that I often look for quiet time.”
How do you describe what you do and what do you love the most about it?
We are primarily a joinery and design studio, designing, building and installing fitted furniture for retail, hospitality and peoples homes. With our in house design studio we are quickly becoming an all-in-one supplier for high end hospitality and retail fitouts, this means taking on the project completely from scratch and providing full design, construction and compliance so someone opening a new site only has to speak to one person.
The bit I love the most is about calming the journey for our clients, this often involves seeking to help them understand exactly what they need and then aligning with them at the same depth. It's really satisfying for me.
What morning ritual or habit have you developed that sets you up for a better day?
I've tried so many things in the past top set me up for the often hectic day ahead. I've fallen back to a really simple routine of brushing my teeth as soon as I wake up, making my bed then counting down from 100 while focusing on the trees outside my bedroom. After that I'll aim to be as slow as possible for as long as possible without looking at my phone. It allows everything to drop into place just as I need it to.
What’s your daily uniform?
Once I've checked I've got no important meetings to dress up for, I'll go with whatever I feel like on that day and play with different outfit combinations often mixing smart and sharp with rough and casual.
Where are you local to, and what’s your best neighbourhood recommendation?
I live near Epping Forest, and there's not much else nearby :l
The studio is in Bethnal Green and every few months a new lunch spot opens on next door on Poyser St.. we're spoilt for choice on our doorstep these days and love making connections with all the other local businesses.. often involving cutting down a new shelf in exchange for some sandwiches; Rogue Sarnies, Focaccia Mia, De Nada's Empanadas, Sodo Pizza. We're also between a pub on one side and one of the best cocktail bars in London on the other, Satan's Whiskers.
Which modern convenience couldn't you live without, and why?
Noise cancellation Air pods. Having cable free music and calls from whatever device I'm working on makes my world so much more enjoyable and easier with no one disturbing me and me not disturbing anyone else for full focus. I'd happily listen to music all day long, ashamed to admit that it's often the exact same album or playlist for weeks at a time until I get sick of it.
"I think that clarity and care make the world materially better. Whether it's caring for people around me, being cared for or deeply caring about whatever it is I'm doing in that moment or on that day."
What are you currently coveting, reading, watching and listening to?
The latest Bashy album after seeing him at Glastonbury
"If honesty is kindness, then clarity is care."
How do you protect your time and attention from the constant demands of modern life?
Air pods!! &
I find that really hard! My phone is a big problem and it constantly distracts me, because it also connects me. I find that so long as I'm not avoiding something, no matter how much I don't want to do it my brain is clear enough to prioritise whatever important things come up.
How do you maintain human connection in an increasingly digital world?
There's so much connection at work with my inspiring team and amazing clients that I often look for quiet time.
Keeping my list of the friends I love the most in my mind and regularly checking in with them for meet ups and activities keeps everything ticking over, even if it is often weeks between seeing each of them because everyone is so busy these days
What makes your life materially better?
Balancing stillness and rest with activities, work and connecting with people
Or
Having a wonderful team that I can fully get behind and who I know have got my back.
