European double bed sheets can fit UK double beds, but sizing differs slightly. A standard UK double fitted sheet measures 135cm x 190cm (53 x 75 inches), whereas a European double fitted sheet is 140cm x 200cm (55 x 79 inches). If the sheet has deep or elasticated corners, it may fit both sizes, like our fitted sheets, which are designed to fit both UK and EU double mattresses snugly.

Luxury double bed sheets are best purchased from brands that use high-quality materials like extra-long staple cotton or European flax linen, like we do at Rise & Fall. While thread count is important, it’s the choice in fibre that helps to deliver our hotel-quality bed linen. We only use fabrics that offer a soft hand feel and are naturally breathable and durable. For hot sleepers we would advise buying bed sheets that are made from breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics. As mentioned above, our double bed sheets are made from premium cotton or European linen. These fabrics have been carefully selected because they enhance airflow, keeping you comfortable throughout the night.

While linen is known to be naturally temperature-regulating, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter, our extra-long staple (ELS) cotton is lighter and more breathable than a typical cotton blend. It offers superior fibre length and structure as they are finer and longer resulting. This results in a lighter, open weave that promotes better air circulation. Rather than trapping heat they naturally absorb and release moisture, helping to keep you dry and cool. When woven into percale (crisp and airy) or sateen (silky and smooth), ELS cotton remains cool to the touch and comfortable, even in warm conditions.

High-quality double bed sheets should last several years with proper care. On average, it’s best to replace them every 2 to 3 years but this depends on material quality and washing frequency.
