FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Expensive Cashmere Worth It?
If you buy high quality cashmere in a style you love then it’s definitely worth the price. It's a more expensive fabric than wool, linen and cotton but It's a great wardrobe investment. We believe it's a wonder fabric that can last a lifetime.
How Can You Tell if Cashmere is Good Quality?
High-quality cashmere is soft, durable, breathable and temperature controlling. At Rise & Fall we only use the very best quality that comes from A-grade Mongolian cashmere. The secret is in the hairs, combed from cashmere goats and measuring in at 15.5 microns and 34-36mm in length. The fibre length combined with the fine quality of this cashmere is what makes it so warm and cosy while also being very lightweight and long-lasting.

Here are key factors to look for:

1. Fiber Length: Long fibers (at least 1.5 inches) are a sign of premium quality, as they create smoother, more durable yarn.

2. Weight: Despite popular belief the net gauge is an important metric.

3. Softness: Good cashmere feels luxuriously soft but not overly flimsy. Rub it gently against your skin to check.

4. Weight: Despite popular belief the ply count is not the right way to assess quality. The gauge count is far more accurate. We also make sure our cashmere items are generously woven, in a premium weight cashmere that feels thick and luxurious. You can even check the weight on our product pages.

5. Weave Density: High-quality cashmere has a dense weave or knit, making it warmer and less prone to pilling.

6. Minimal Pilling: Piling isn’t a sign of poor quality but a natural characteristic of the fibres. New cashmere may pill slightly but excessive piling may signal lower-quality fibers. We also don't use any harsh chemicals to artificially stop pilling as they can compromise the softness and integrity of the cashmere.

7. Certification: Look for labels like “100% Cashmere”, "grade-A cashmere" and official certifications, as mentioned above, to ensure authenticity.

Can Cashmere Be Worn in Every Season?
Yes. It' an ideal choice for colder months, helping you to stay warm and cosy without having to wear heavy, bulky layers. The material is also known for its lightweight nature, making it a great versatile piece for the summer and transitional seasons alike. A beautiful cashmere wrap, for example, can be worn when the summer evenings draw in.
Is Cashmere Warmer Than Wool?
Wool is a sturdier fabric but cashmere is generally warmer. This is because cashmere fibers are finer and have a unique structure that provides better insulation, trapping more air and retaining heat effectively.
Does Cashmere Get Better With Age?
The good news is that, unlike wool, cashmere improves with wears and hand-washes. It encourages the fibres to develop a slightly fluffy layer. A cashmere item will also keeps its shape much better over the years.
